  Our Ministries

The mission outreach of Bellamy United Methodist Church endeavors to reach far beyond the borders of Gloucester County.  We are blessed with the opportunity to send young people from our congregation to the foreign mission field on a short-term basis.  The support and participation of the Rappahannock District Youth Choir is continually significant as the youth perform mission work within our district and region.  Bellamy participated in the effort to send our District Superintendent to Russia, as well as providing school and health kits for the children of Afghanistan.  Bellamy also supports Clara Biswas, a full-time missionary to Cambodia.

Local missions are also a very active area for our congregation.  We annually support the Salvation Army Angel Tree Project, and have our own Mitten Tree, which provides hats and gloves for the children of the Henry Fork Service Center in western Virginia.  In addition, Bellamy supports the work of the Laurel Shelter, Gloucester-Mathews Free Clinic and the Mattaponi Healing Eagle Free Clinic.  All of these projects are supported with great enthusiasm.  After Hurricane Isabel passed through our area, articles needed to support mission work in the hardest hit area of the county were assembled and sent out.

Bellamy is currently in the process of expanding our mission work in several ways.  Please visit the various pages on the different Ministries in our church.  You can find their meeting times on the Bellamy Church Calendar as well.  We are ever diligent to hear God's message providing us with direction to go as He opens the doors of opportunity to be witnesses for Him.

Bellamy's Educational Opportunities

Our year-long Sunday School program supports classes for all ages, beginning with four year-olds and including a college-age class and four adult classes.  An attended nursery is provided for children through three years old during both worship services and Sunday School.  Worship bags are available for children during the worship services.  During the 11:00 worship service we have a Junior Church program for children ages three through five.  We have many other opportunities during the year.

Our confirmation program is available for anyone over 12 years of age.  We have a Sunday School Christmas Program and an Egg Hunt and Easter Celebration.  Disciple I, II, III, and IV classes are offered beginning each fall, depending upon class interest.  Other shorter term day-time and evening Bible studies are also available.  Our week-long Vacation Bible School is usually in June.

For more information on any of the programs, please contact the church office at 804-694-5142 or office@bellamyumc.org.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry is a program that equips lay persons in our congregation to provide distinctively Christian one-to-one care to those experiencing all kinds of life needs, both in our congregation and in the community.  Stephen Ministry works in conjunction with the pastor to help a person talk through crises in his or her life.  You might consider receiving a Stephen Minister if you have been hospitalized, terminally ill, grieving a death or loss, having a job crisis, facing a life transition or dealing with aging and the elderly.

Stephen Ministers have received 50 hours of initial training in important caring ministry skills.  They visit another person regularly and offer Christian support and care.  Confidentiality is of the utmost importance during the caring relationship.  Stephen Ministers participate in regular support and supervision to give the best possible care.

This is a vital ministry in our church that enables our entire congregation to grow as a warm, loving , nurturing community where people are cherished.

"Encourage one another and build one another up."
